Cupcakes and Kites!

Everyone loves cupcakes, right? Well me and the bf certainly do, so when I heard about a new cupcake shop in St Andrews, I knew straight away we had to go! It was his birthday a couple of weeks back, and I got him a kite as one of his presents, so I thought we could combine both in a lovely wee day out. The cupcakes are from a shop called Bibi's Bakery, which is a cake lovers heaven! It had about 20 varieties of cupcakes, which made it very hard to choose. We did manage to narrow it down to 2 each-

Don't they look amazing? They tasted it too! We both got a Turkish Delight-

Not only was there a square of chocolate covered turkish delight on top, the frosting tasted of it too, and at the bottom of the cake, was some gooey filling that also tasted of turkish delight! Yum yum. For my second cake, I had to go for the girlie choice of chocolate-
Not much more to say about this, other than it was all about the chocolate! Again there was a gooey chocolate filling at the bottom. The bf chose raspberry for his other cake-
Again, tasty, tasty! I may have had a wee taste of the topping, and can confirm it was yummy. I was really excited about our visit to Bibi's, and it didn't dissapoint! I was very pleasantly surprised, I was expecting to part with a small fortune, but it was £5 for the 4 cakes, so £1.25 each. The prices started from £1.45 for a single cake, and got cheaper the more you bought. Great value. They do amazing towers of cupcakes for weddings and things, as well as cupcake decorating classes. I would love to go to these, but at £125 its a little out of my league right now! I just read on their facebook page that they have been shortlisted in the National Cupcake competiton, so fingers crossed for them. Only problem now is that we will probably end up going to St Andrews every weekend for cakes.

Now that wouldn't be so bad, as like I said, we have a new kite to play with. St Andrews beach is always full of kite flyers, along with kite boarders/surfers. The kite I got is a quite small one, but a good one to start with. It was lots of fun, but quite hard to master! Needless to say, the boy could get it flying quite well, but when I had a go, it stayed up for a minute, and then came crashing down. Ah well, practice makes perfect, and practice means cupcakes!

Hope you enjoyed drooling over the cakes, and all you Scottish Lassies, I would recommend you make the trip!

I love Poundland!

Yes Ladies, its true! Being a poor student, i'm always on the lookout for a bargain. Poundland has some really good deals, lots of brand names, for just, thats right, a pound! Now I didn't buy all this at once, this is a few months worth of purchases, as it is hit and miss, they have different things in all the time. They have brand name make up, which you need to have a wee sort through, but can get some good bits.

As you can see, there are some good bargains to be had! All of the above were a pound each, except the revlon lipglosses which were 2 for a pound.  So we have Revlon skinlights touch-pad makeup (more about that below), almay blush in a peachy shade, vital radiance blush, Revlon diamond lust eyeshadow, which is nicely shimmery for the summer, Rimmel metallic cream shadow, which isn't great on it own, but works well under the revlon shadow. Then its the 2 revlon lipglosses, which come with a tiny lip brush that doubles as the clasp!I am particularly happy with the vital radiance brushes, I got a brow brush and a concealer brush.

I will probably not use the brow brush for its intended purpose, but will use for eyeshadows and the like. I like the fact that the concealer brush is nice and little, for exact application! The Revlon skinlights touch-pad makeup I just thought i'd try out, it doesn't have a shade or anything.

As you can see, it looks a bit strange, its a liquid foundation, which is contained in a foamy pad. I just press down with my fingers, and apply. Its quite light, and shimmery, and I actually really like it for summer. I even went back for a back up. All the make up comes in a purple packet, so this is what you need to look out for-

It says famous brands, and they are usually hanging up so you need to have a good sort through. I also got a few other goodies-

I have seen a few different Sally Hansen products in there, I think some of them are ones we don't get here. I got a moisturising cuticle remover, as I'm a little fanatical about removing cuticles. I also got a pack of exfoliating and cleansing sponges, 2 pairs of lashes, and a little nail art set, just to have a play about with. I had read elsewhere that the lashes were good, so I got a couple of pairs to practice applying with, as I don't have much experience. I cut the top of the pack off to store them.

I got a plain pair, and a blingy pair. They even come with glue, which probably won't be the best, but we'll see. I am realising this post has gone on for ages, but I have one last wee bargain!

Now i'm sure you have probably seen these before, as alot of bloggers have them. My local store only just got them back in, so I was very excited about this, and bought quite a few! They are pretty small, but as my collection is rapidly outgrowing my pretty wh smith cupcake drawers, there are ideal until I sort out a better solution.
So I hope you enjoyed my bargains, and please let me know of any you have found!

Clinique Ambassador Programme

I was excited to recieve an email the other week saying I had been accepted to be a Clinique Ambassador. This was something I applied for online, and involved answering questions about my skin. What this involves for now is trying out their 3 step system for 2 weeks, and submitting reviews and video diaries. This is all related to their 3 things before 30 campaign. I also have to get some lovely people to sign up for their website when it launches, more about that nearer the time! Once these steps are done, i'll be a fully fledged Ambassador, and the first 200 to become one get a full sized 3 step system. Not sure what else will happen in the future! Anyway, I got my pack last week-

It all came in a nice little box, with the booklet explaining the process, and my ambassador card! Again, not sure what this will actually do, but it looks swish! Maybe i'll try using it to get into VIP areas and the like! The kit itself is matched to your skintype, and I got type 3, for combination/oily skin, which is accurate.

I was surprised with the sizes of the samples, which were 50ml of the liquid facial soap, 100 ml of clarifying lotion, and 30ml of Moisturizing gel. I think these will last beyond the 2 week trial period! The 3 step system is supposed to be simple, takes 3 minutes twice a day, and cleanses, exfoliates and moisturises. I guess this is a little different than the cleanse, tone, moisturise we are used to. I have been using the products for 6 days now, and whilst I feel they are ok, I am not bowled over. Clinque state that the RRP of the full 3 step system is £42, and for this price, I would expect a bit more. My skin does feel soft, but I can't help but feel it gets a little greasy later in the day. Also, the clarifying lotion smells exactly like tequila! I thought maybe I was crazy, but I got my boyfriend to sniff it, and his reaction was 'Eww, Tequila, that just gave me the boke!' (thats made him feel sick, for the non-scots!).  I also think I prefer a cleanser lotion in the evening, rather than a facial wash, I don't want to be woken up with water when I'm about to sleep!

Anyway, i'll keep using the products, and keep you updated with how I get on.

In other exciting news, I recieved a product today to guest review for another blog, more on that when its published!

Hope you all had a great weekend, mine was rainy as usual! I finally escaped the jury duty on friday morning!

Pink goodies!

So this week has been a bit annoying, I got called for jury duty, had to go to the court on monday. I didn't get picked, but have had to call back every night to see if I have to go in the next day. I have to go back tomorrow, and might be picked. Its especially annoying as its my boyfriends birthday on friday, and I wanted to go up and get things ready. Ah well! Its also been all rainy, and thundery. The summer clothes are away, the winter ones are back.

Anyway, after I finally got away from the court on monday, I went for a wee look round the shop to cheer myself up. As you may have guessed from my blog title, I love pink, and just so happened to buy a few pink items!

As you can see, I also got some sale bargains! In HMV I got the first Sex and the City movie for £3, which my mum is most excited about seeing again. I also got some pink headphones for my ipod, as I seem to  break them fairly regularly as I just chuck them in my bag. I always look out for sale headphones, and then I have a spare!

I got this cute cupcake necklace in the Accesorize sale, for £3. Please excuse the bad photo, it is actually a gold colour, and the bit hanging from the U is a diamanté. I love cupcakes, so couldn't resist this! There were lots of things in the sale there, so its worth a look.

The other thing I got was these beauties from Topshop. They are mini straighteners, which come in their own little pouch. They cost £10, but with my student discount, £9. They really are tiny!

Here is a size comparison! Now, they may be tiny, but they are powerful! They heat to 210 degrees, and quickly too. They might not suit people with hair that needs intensive straightening, but for my hair, which is quite thick but fairly straight, they work well. They are ideal for straightening your fringe, and can also create little curls!

This is the little case they come in, which has a heat resistant lining. This is great I think, as you can use them, and then pack them right away if you want. The plug comes apart to convert into a European plug, you just unscrew a bit, but I haven't tried this out yet.

These straighteners come in a few different colours, I saw red spotty ones in store, and online they have white and black ones. You can also get mini hairdryers, which were in a case about the same size, and mini curling tongs which were a bit bigger. I think these are great for holidays and things, and I spose even touch ups on the go, if you can find a plug! I'll probably take them with my to my boyfriends, save lugging my bigger ones.

Hope you enjoyed all my pink goodies

I forgot the kitteh!

As I was taking the photos for my e.l.f and sleek post earlier, my cat Maisie was in the background giving me strange looks, like 'why is the stupid human taking photos of brushes?' So I thought i'd involve her, and take some photos of her! I forgot to put them in the actual post, so here they are!
Looking uninterested-

Maybe some free lipglosses will cheer her up?
No, still not interested! What about my new sleek palette?

Well, she opened her eyes, i'll take that as interested! Its a bit too hot for her just now, so she likes to sleep alot. She's old too, bless her!

e.l.f and Sleek goodies

Good evening Ladies!
Hope you all had a good week, mine was fun as I was down in London visiting my bro, and also got to catch up with the boyf who was down for work!

I didn't buy much when I was down there, as the pennies are running very low, but I did get my first ever Sleek Palette! I chose Original-

I haven't done any swatches, as I guessed most people have seen them before, I'm a bit late jumping on the Sleek bandwagon! Please let me know if you would like to see any though! I chose this one as the colours seem very versatile, and not too bright, which I'm not keen on. I really want to get better at eye make up, so i'll be playing around with these alot.

So I  have had a wee list accumulating of stuff I wanted from e.l.f, and when last weeks offer of free postage, free lip glosses and competition entry came up, I could resist no longer! Here is a pretty bad photo of what I got-

Pretty restrained, hey? I have been wanting the brushes for a while, in particular the flat topped one.
I got the studio powder brush (flat top), studio blush brush, and defining eye brush. I plan to use the blush brush to develop my contour skills, and the eye brush along with my new sleek palette, to do better eyes! I'm going to be busy in front of my mirror (and youtube!).

Closer look at the flat top-

This is called a powder brush, but I bought it for putting on my foundation. It is very dense, and I did try swiping it over some powder, but it seemed to pick up a bit much for my liking. I prefer my e.l.f studio complexion brush for powder. I haven't tried this yet for my liquid foundation, but I have high hopes after reading about it on other blogs!

The other thing I got was the studio blush in Gotta Glow, which is a highlight rather than a blush, i'd say.

I really like this product, its got a nice sturdy case, its shimmery, but not too much, and gives a nice highlighted effect! Yay for e.l.f!

Hope you all have a good weekend, I have a hen do, so need to decide what to wear!

8 questions tag

The lovely Dottie K tagged me to do this, thanks! As she says- This is a bit different from other tags because the person who tags you has to come up with 8 different questions for you to answer, then you think of another 8 questions for the people that you tag

1. What's one thing that you really love about blogging?
I love sharing my crazy obsession with make up and cosmetics with other like minded people! I love finding out what products are like from other peoples blogs, and hopefully they can from mine!

2. What's your favourite high street make up item?
Hmm, tough one, I have so many! I'd say its my Bourjois Blusher.

3. Name one thing that's on your beauty wish list at the moment?
Maybelliene Falsies mascara, I am trying to be good and wait until my current one is finished.

4. Do you have a favourite nail polish brand, and if so, which one?
Not really, I don't wear a huge amount of nail polish, as I bite my nails and they are ugly! I did buy some Barry M stuff today though, the pretty colours drew me in!

5. What's your favourite perfume?
DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom (the pink one!)

6. You have £1000 to spend - high street fashion splurge, or one designer item?
High street fashion splurge!

7. Do you have a favourite high end make up brand?
No, as a poor student, I don't buy them! Benefit appeals to me, but I think thats mostly due to the pretty packaging!

8. What's your favourite non beauty related item?
My pink ipod nano. I love to have a bit of music while i'm walking places,or on the train.

Now, my 8 questions!

1. If you could only wear one eye colour for the rest of your life, what would it be?
2. Whats your top skincare tip?
3. How long do you take to get ready for a night out?
4. Whats your favourite smell? (doesn't have to be perfume!)
5. Whats your top bargain make up tip?
6. What did you want to be when you grew up?
7. Whats your favourite holiday destination?
8. Whats your favourite magazine?

I tag-

I look forward to seeing your answers!

London Calling!

Just to let you know i'm away gallivanting again, so probably won't be blogging much. I am going down to London with mama pom, to visit the bro. It just so happens my bf is down there for work too, bonus!

Not sure what we are going to do, we are thinking of going up the London Eye, and maybe the tower of London. I always love the shopping in London, but my purse is far too empty for such antics.

Any suggestions for fun things to do?

One thing I do know, I'll be eating these-

We don't get Krispy Kreme up in Scotland, so every time I am down in London, its nom nom nom!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Review: 17 Limited Edition Precious Metals Bronzer

I saw this on Sabrina's blog, and knew I had to have it! It is from the 17 Precious Metals collection, which is limited edition until the 13th of July (apparently). The collection also contains a nail polish, eyeshadow trio and lipgloss. The bronzer was £4.49, from Boots. Also, they have an offer just now if you spend £6 on 17, you get a free gift with lipgloss, mascara and nailpolish, bonus! So, lets have a lookie-

Packaging-
I think the packaging is ok, the gold effect on the front is quite nice, but i'm not sure about the white bottom. It gets a little mucky, as you can see at the bottom. Overall though, its no biggie, its a nice size, and a wee bit different than the normal black 17 packaging. It also seems pretty sturdy, so shouldn't open or break easily in bags!
What it says-
'A shimmering powder that creates a beautiful bronzed glow. Sweep a brush through all 4 shades then lightly dust onto cheekbones'

I have to say, I love this! Lets look at some swatches, firstly the individual shades-

(sorry about the bad photo quality, that is something I need to work on, so any tips on lighting or technique, greatly appreciated!)
All shades mixed-

So as you can see, its fairly shimmery, as would be expected! It isn't something I would wear on a daily basis, but for summer, or a night out, its ideal! I did wear it in Paris, and found that it does need a good bit of blending, but looks lovely! I would say apply lightly and build, as it can be a bit of a shimmery shock at first!

While thinking about this review, I tried out a few other uses. As there is a good range of shades, it is actually a very versatile product. The lightest shade works well as a highlighter, applied below brows, or on cheek bones. The other shades make great metallic eyeshadows. This makes it an ideal product for taking on holiday, as you have all these products in one, and you can look shimmery, summery and fantastic!

I think that writing this review has actually made me love this even more! So ladies, get yourselves down to Boots before it sells out!
