Peacock NOTD

Thought I'd show you this NOTD from a while back, its Peacock by 17. Now, I'm really not sure about peacocks. I have a vivid memory from my childhood of being at a wildlife park, and getting a massive fright when a peacock pinged its tail out. Pretty sure I cried, and now I just don't trust them. Can't argue about their beauty though, and the lovely colours in their tail feathers. This colour is a beaut too, it reminds me more of the sea though.

As with most 17 polishes it applied well and lasted a good few days. Overall a lovely bright colour for spring and summer. Apologies for my scaly hands, in my line of work there is a lot of hand washing, and if I'm not rigorous with he hand cream my hands end up like this.

What is your take on peacocks? Scary or awesome?

Make-shift make-up storage

Since my move into the nursing accommodation at my new hospital, the small amount of make-up I have has been living in a make up bag. This upsets me as I can't seen what I have, and I am still pining for my lovely WH Smith cupcake drawers full of lovelies at home. So, I am thrilled with the solution I have come up with.

Isn't it great? I have very little shelf room here, so this is ideal. I can see everything, and get at it easily.

Its actually a jewellery organiser from Primark, which I have stupidly forgotten the price of, but it was defo less than £5. I bought it planning just to keep random stuff in it, but when I got it home I came up with the genius idea of putting my make up in it.

Excuse the cheeky vino, its waiting there till I get some pals!
It has a hook on the top so you could hang it in a wardrobe, or on a door, but I have hung it from my shelf, and it fits perfectly in the space behind my telly. There are different sized pockets, and the biggest ones take my MUA palettes and brushes perfectly, and the smaller ones are ideal for eyeshadows, blushes and lipsticks. It is double sided, but I have only used this side.

Have you come up with any ingenious storage solutions for small spaces?

Feeling Fruity

My wee brother always says I am a marketer's dream, always falling for the latest fad. I can't really argue with that, and here is another example, the enticing treats hanging about by the tills in H&M. I was in buying a few bits of clothing for my trip to Paris this month, as I have realised I barely have anything down here. Anyway, I made my way to the till, happy with my choices, and there calling my name were these adorable little fruit lipglosses!

There was another one, a cherry, but it smelt really false and just didn't appeal to me. The apple and orange smell lovely though. Although they are called lipglosses I would say they are definitely lip balms.

In terms of flavour, they both smell great, but the apple one transfers more of a flavour onto the lips. They aren't the most moisturising balms ever, so wouldn't deal with a major chappage situation. They are so cute though, I can forgive that, and it just means you need to get  to show them off more often when you re-apply.

They were a wee bargain at £1.99 each.

Do you fall for at the till goodies?

Oh Superdrug, I love you....

I am sure I'm not the only person who goes into Superdrug or Boots for a browse and comes out with loads! I went in for a nail buffer, came out with 2 and some other things!

The QVS 3 way buffer was actually a repurchase, I have one at home in Scotland that is a different pattern. Its so annoying, most of my things are still at home, so I never have the things I need here! Anyway, I like this buffer, it has 3 sides, for buffing and polishing, and the chunky size makes it easy to use. Pretty cheap at £2.99 too.

I then got another buffer, a Revlon crazy shine. I have seen this a few times, and the promise of 400% times shinier nails was hard to resist! The buffer has a rougher side to smooth with, and then the white shining side. It does make them really shiny, it looks like I have clear polish on. Like all buffers, overuse can weaken nails, so this needs to be an occasional treat for when my nails look really rough! This was also £2.99.

I picked up another few random things that had caught my eye, the new ladies Lynx for £2.95, some lovely mango and papaya shower gel for £2.05 and 1 minute manicure scrub for 49p. I am testing these products and will review soon.

Do you go into shops for one thing and come out with a bag full?

The holy grail of Barry M's!

When I was in Topshop Oxford Street a while back having a nose about on my own, I nearly shrieked when I spotted these beauties. Only my fellow beauty Bloggers will understand my excitement.

Ta-da! Aren't they amazing? I had never seen these polishes before, in either Boots or Superdrug. I am such a sucker for a glittery polish.

They are Lavender, Once Upon a Time and Silver cascade.

Silver cascade has coloured glitter in a slightly pinky base, and I think would give full coverage with a good few coats. Lavender has big lavender (funnily enough) coloured chunks with small silver glitter, and Once Upon a time has silver and pink strands with small red and silver dots. As Lavender and Once Upon a time are chunkier glitters, I think they will look best layered over another nail polish.

I am so glad I managed to get these babies. Only sad part to this tale is that I had to leave them at home in Scotland, as I can't wear nail polish when I am working. Ah well, when I have holidays my nails will look amazing!

What is your holy grail polish?

Models Own smokey eye kit

Models Own are probably most well known for their amazing nail polishes, but the make up range has been extending slowly but surely. I already have all of the blushers, I reviewed a couple here. I got this little kit a while ago in a 3 for 2 in Boots, always one for a bargain me!

The kit has 3 eyeshadows, 2 brushes, and a how to guide. The one I got is 'Sultry' but there is a range of colour choices.

The brushes I really like, you get an angled brush and a shading brush. I already have the full sized versions of these, and the mini versions have similar sized bristles, with itty bitty handles. Ideal for travelling, or to keep in your handbag.

The eye shadows themselves have good pigmentation, I love the shimmery gold. The darker colours are a little chalky.

I also love the addition of the how to card, as I am rubbish at applying eyeshadow. I have to say though, when I followed the instructions I just looked like a bad goth! Back to the drawing board.

Overall I am glad I got this kit, at £8 I think its good value especially as you get the 2 brushes. The kits are available from Boots, and from the Models Own website.

Have you tried any of the Models Own make up range?

I'm still alive!

Hi everyone,

I thought i'd just do a wee update to let you know I am still here! I mentioned that I got a new job in England, and it ended up that they wanted me to start earlier than I had thought. So, my life has been turned upside down a bit, what with the big move, and starting my first job as a real nurse! The job is in A&E, and so far I love it. I am pretty close to London, so have managed a few trips up there. Now that I am a bit more settled, I am going to get back into the blogging, so expect to hear more from me. Only problem is, I don't have much down here with me. Oh how I pine for all my make up and nail polish!
